Dragon Con 2021 – Sept. 2nd – 6th Downtown Atlanta, GA
It’s Labor Day Weekend, and that means it’s time for Dragon Con! Located in 5 downtown hotels, at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Sheraton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree Plaza, and AmericasMart 1 and 2. Dragon Con brings together actors, writers, comic book artists, singers, dancers, and cos-players to celebrate all things pop-culture-related.
There is a fantastic lineup of creators, writers, artists, and actors at this year’s Dragon Con, including writers Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files) and Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse), voice actors Fred Tatasciore ( The Family Guy), Jess Harnell (Animaniacs) and Maurice LaMarche (Animaniacs), comic artists Joe Rubinstein and David Mack.
The stars will be out at Dragon Con with a lineup that includes William Shatner (Star Trek), James Edward Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), Mary Wiseman (Star Trek: Discovery), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery), Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) and Felicia Day (Buffy).
CW stars will be in attendance, including Tyler Hoechlin (Superman and Lois), Rachel Skarsten (Batwoman), Samantha Smith (Supernatural), Megan Tandy (Batwoman), Sam Littlefield (Batwoman), Julia Harkavy (Arrow), Wallis Day (Batwoman).
While the famous Dragon Con parade is still happening, there will be a few changes. Usually open to the public, due to COVID restrictions, the Dragon Con Parade will be modified and scaled back. Not only will it be smaller than in past years, with fewer marching participants, spectators will not be allowed on the route. Only Dragon Con badge holders will be allowed to watch the parade in person.
However, you can still see the infamous Dragon Con Parade, which will be broadcast live on CW Atlanta at 10 am on Saturday, Sept. 4th.
The cool thing about DragonCon is that no matter what your interest is in, there is probably a panel or even a track (panels and events that fall under one subject like Star Wars, Star Trek, or even just Space) that will peak your knowledge of your favorite Sci-Fi subjects.
The Dragon Con Dealers Hall, located in AmericasMart, is where you can buy just about anything your geeky heart desires – from Steampunk clothing to comic books and rare collectible artwork.
Cosplay is an integral part of Dragon Con, and costumes will always be out and about. There are many Costume Contests during Dragon Con, including the Star Wars Costume Contest, the Page to Stage Costume Contest, and the ever-popular Masquerade Costume Contest.
There are a ton of panels throughout the weekend. Some are located in enormous halls, while others occupy smaller conference rooms. You can find panels on just about everything you can imagine covering the gambit of fandom; from your favorite current and past Sci-Fi shows, such as Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Game of Thrones, and CW shows like Batwoman and Superman and Lois.
Gaming runs throughout the con, with some gaming contests going on 24 hours a day. No matter what kind of gaming you are into, Dragon Von has it, including Board Games, Collectible Card Games, LAN Gaming, Live Action Role Playing, Table Top Gaming, and of course, all types of Video Gaming.

In the spirit of the Dragon and with infinite admiration, Dragon Con has created The Dragon Award as a vessel to recognize excellence in Science Fiction and Fantasy. These awards will be by the fans, for the fans, and are a chance to reward those who have made real contributions to SF, books, games, comics, and movies.
And of course, the Walk of Fame will be ongoing throughout the con where you can get an autograph of your favorite personality.
To help spread the joy that is Dragon Con to fans who are not comfortable with attending a live convention (or who are blocked by international travel restrictions), Dragon Con Goes Virtual, a live-streamed version of the convention, will be available for fans to enjoy from the comfort of their own home in the company of close friends and family. A Dragon Con Goes Virtual subscription is $10.
Dragon Con is doing everything they can to make this a safe and fun con. This is the latest info on COVID and how Dragon Con is making sure that your safety is a priority:
1). Dragon Con is requiring all attendees who attend the live convention to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of arrival before entering the convention.
2). Appropriate face masks will be required at all times inside convention venues regardless of vaccination status, in keeping with updated CDC guidelines and City of Atlanta requirements.
3). Dragon Con will have a reduced capacity from prior years, including no Saturday-only membership sales, no onsite membership sales, and reduced capacity for all panel rooms and other programming venues, including the Walk of Fame, where will be a one-way flow enforced throughout the space and limited capacity at all times.
4). Badge checks will be expanded, lines for events will be closed earlier, and the traditional arcade partner, Joystick Game Bar, will move from AmericasMart to a unique pop-up experience located at 161 Peachtree Center Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30303, with activities going on from 10a – 4a daily. Dragon Con members get in free.
5). Unlike in year’s past, this year’s Dragon Con Parade will require a Dragon Con badge to view the parade live. However, the parade will be broadcast live on CW Atlanta at 10 am on Saturday morning, Sept. 4th.
