Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted’s (Keanu Reeves) lives haven’t quite turned out the way that they were told they would. Both are middle-aged dads who have never produced that big hit song they thought they were destined to. What to Watch For: The film is being released 31 years after the first film, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and 29 years after its sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991).

Word on the Street: There are four actors who have appeared in all three of the Bill & Ted films: Keanu Reeves (Ted), Alex Winter (Bill), Hal Landon, Jr. (Captain Logan), and Amy Stoch (Missy).

My Take: I loved the first film, not so much its sequel.

 

The New Mutants (2020) PG-13

Five young mutants, who are still discovering their abilities, are held against their will and now must learn to fight on their own.     The New Mutants Website

What to Watch For: The film has been described as a superhero horror film, certainly a first for this type of genre film. The initial trailer of the film was released on a Friday the 13th.

Word on the Street: The film has had its release date changed numerous times. The film was initially scheduled for a release date of April 13, 2018.

My Take: I am interested to see how all this comes together.

 

Get Duked! (2019) R

Three teenagers (Rian Gordon, Lewis Gribben, and Viraj Juneja) are given one last chance to turn their lives around by completing a grueling trek across the highlands. They are joined by an overachiever (Samuel Bottomley) who just wants to pad his curriculum to get into school. Their first assignment is to work together to find their campsite before dark. The problem is, there are some wealthy aristocrats (Georgie Glen and Eddie Izzard) who intend to hunt the boys down for sport.      Get Duked! Website

What to Watch For: The film won the Midnight Audience Award at the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.

Word on the Street: Writer/Director Ninian Doff is known for his video shorts, including The Chemical Brothers’ Sometimes I Feel So Deserted.

My Take: I hear the film was the talk of the 2019 SXSW Film Festival.

 

Centigrade (2020)

A married couple (Vincent Piazza, Genesis Rodriguez) gets stranded in a frozen vehicle after a blizzard in the arctic mountains of Norway and must struggle to endure amid plunging temperatures and incredible odds of survival.      Centigrade Website

What to Watch For: This is award-winning TV series director Brendan Walsh’s first feature film.

Word on the Street: The film is based on a true story.

My Take: I became a fan of Genesis Rodriquez on the TV series Time after Time.

The story of David Copperfield (Dev Patel), whose rag to riches story is a journey of the triumph of life’s many obstacles.     The Personal History of David Copperfield Website

What to Watch For: The film is based on the 1850 Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield.

Word on the Street: The outstanding cast includes Peter Capaldi, Hugh Laurie, Tilda Swinton, and Ben Whishaw.

My Take: The book is one of my childhood favorites, so I can’t wait to see this film.

 

You Cannot Kill David Arquette (2020) R

David Arquette 20 years ago became the WCW World Wrestling Champion, considered by most wrestling fans and historians as one of the worst events to ever happen in the wrestling world. In this documentary, Arquette decides that after ten years of not getting any acting jobs, to go back into wrestling and try to atone for his wrestling sins.    You Cannot Kill David Arquette Website

What to Watch For: Both Arquette’s current wife, Coco Arquette, and his former wife, Courteney Cox, appear in this film, along with David’s two sisters, Patricia and Rosanna Arquette.

Word on the Street: The film includes wrestling greats Ric Flair, Dallas Diamond Page, Eric Bischoff, and Brian Knobbs.

My Take: I am a huge wrestling fan, so this is right up my alley.

 

All Together Now (2020) PG

Amber (Auli’i Cravalho) is a musically gifted high-school-student who has hopes of attending Carnegie Mellon. Amber spends her time between her beloved high school drama club helmed by Mr. Franks (Fred Armisen), her job at the donut shop, and her volunteer time at a local retirement community. When Amber’s dreams are threatened, she learns to lean on the strength of her family and friends to move forward.    All Together Now Website

What to Watch For: The incredible Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Carol Burnett plays a resident of the retirement community.

Word on the Street: The film is based on the novel Sorta Like a Rockstar by Mathew Quick.

My Take: I am a big fan of the TV show Portlandia which starred Fred Armisen and was filmed, like this movie, in Portland, Oregon.
