What to Watch For: The movie is based on a Saturday Night Live sketch that Will Ferrell starred in.

Word on the Street: Besides Ferrell and Reilly, the cast includes Lauren Lapkus, Ralph Fiennes, Rebecca Hall, Hugh Laurie, and Steve Coogan.

My Take: This is the 2nd film that Etan Cohen has directed. The first was the 2015 film Get Hard with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart.

The film opens nationwide on Christmas Day.

Vice (2018)  R

The story of Dick Cheney (Christian Bale) who rose from poverty to become a Washington insider, ultimately become the Vice President under George W. Bush. Vice Website

What to Watch For: Besides Bale doing another chameleon appearance as Cheney, the cast includes Amy Adams as Cheney’s wife, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld, Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush, Bill Camp as Gerald Ford and Tyler Perry as Colin Powell.

Word on the Street: The film is written and directed by Adam McKay, who gave us the 2016 Oscar-winning film The Big Short.

My Take: The film is nominated for six Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

The film opens nationwide on Christmas Day.

What to Watch For: The film is based on James Baldwin’s novel of the same name.

Word on the Street: Writer/director Barry Jenkins won an Academy Award for his screenplay of Moonlight (2016).

My Take: Many film critics think that Regina King will get an Academy Award nomination for her role in the film as the mother of the man accused of the crime.

The film opens on Christmas day exclusively in Atlanta at AMC Phipps Plaza,  Regal Atlantic Station, and Landmark Midtown Art Cinema

On the Basis of Sex (2018) PG -13

Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Felicity Jones), along with her husband, Martin (Armie Hammer) begins a fight for equal rights for women that takes her all the way to the Supreme Court. On the Basis of Sex Website

What to Watch For: The film is directed by two-time Primetime Emmy winner Mimi Leder.

Word on the Street: Natalie Portman was attached to the role of Ginsburg for four years, but she eventually dropped out, and Jones replaced her.

My Take: I am interested in seeing this film after watching the excellent documentary RGB (2018).

The film opens in Atlanta area theatres on Christmas Day.

For Keeps (1988)  Darcy (Molly Ringwald) and Stan (Randall Batinkoff) are in their last year of high school, and both are doing well and are planning for college.  Their world comes crashing down when Darcy gets pregnant, and all their well-laid plans have to change.
