What to Watch For: Not only did Bradley Cooper star in the film, he directed the film, co-wrote the screenplay and even wrote some of the songs in the movie.

Word on the Street: Lady Gaga wrote and produced some of the songs in the film.

My Take: I think that A Star is Born is the front-runner for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

The Hate U Give (22018) R

What to Watch For: The film is based on the book of the same name by Angie Thomas.

Word on the Street: The movie premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.

My Take: The film is directed by George Tillman, Jr. who also directed Soul Food (1997) and The Longest Ride (2015).

The film opens in Atlanta on Friday.

The Sisters Brothers (2018) R

What to Watch For: The director of the film, Jacques Audiard, won Best Director at the 2018 Venice Film Festival.

Word on the Street: John C. Reilly optioned the rights to the book in 2011).

My Take: I am always up for a western.

The fillm opens in Atlanta on Friday.

Venom (2018) R

What to Watch For: Tom Hardy took the role because his son is a huge fan of the comic book series.

Word on the Street: The outstanding cast includes Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Woody Harrelson, Scott Haze and Reid Scott.

My Take: The director of this film, Ruben Fleischer, also directed one of my favorite movies, Zombieland (2009).

The films opens nationwide on Friday.

Hal (2018)

Documentary on the legendary director Hal Ashby, who directed classics including Harold and Maude, Shampoo and Being There. Hal Website

What to Watch For: The movie contains interviews with stars such as Judd Apatow, Jeff Bridges, Jane Fonda, Rosanne Arquette, and Louis Gossett Jr.

Word on the Street: The film was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.

My Take: Asby dominated the 70’s with a string of hits including The Last Detail, Coming Home, and Bound for Glory.
