Acclaimed filmmaker Lee Daniels has revealed how he helped discover rap superstar Cardi B. It turns out that back in 2015, Cardi had begun to gain publicity thanks to her viral social media videos, but hadn’t yet managed to really break through with the general public. She auditioned for Lee’s TV show ‘Star’, and although she didn’t get the part, Daniels was so impressed with the charismatic young performer that he took a short video with her, in which he calls her his next discovery, and shared it to his Instagram account. Apparently, the producer of the reality show ‘Love & Hip Hop: New York’ saw Lee’s post, and hired Cardi for the series, where she really shot to fame. The singer stayed for two seasons, before leaving the show to pursue her music career. Daniels isn’t worried about getting any credit for helping the young star along the road to success, though, and says she’s his favorite rapper right now.
