What to Watch For:  This is the 2nd installment in a proposed trilogy.

Word on the Street:  Due to the success of the first film, this film was announced to be in production only one month after the release of the first installment.

My Take:  I have come to enjoy Josh Brolin’s performances.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.


Uncle Drew  (2018)  PG-13

After draining his life savings, Dax (Lil Rel Howery)  enters a team in street-ball tournament, and then he loses his star players to a rival (Nick Kroll).  Dax stumbles across a legendary street-ball player, Uncle Drew (Kyrie Irving), and convinces Uncle Drew to assemble his legendary street-ball team and join Dax’s squad for the tourney. What to Watch For:  Uncle Drew’s squad is made up of basketball stars Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, and Lisa Leslie.

Word on the Street: There are a ton of cameos in this film including Al Masekela, John Calipari, Jon Hammond, Scoop Jackson, Pee Wee Kirkland, Earl Monroe, Chris Mullin, Bill Walton, George Gervin, Steve Nash, David Robinson, Jerry West, Dikembe Mutombo and NeNe Leakes.

My Take:  David Robinson, who played for the San Antonio Spurs, is my all-time favorite basketball player.

Black Water  (2018)  R

What to Watch For:  This is the fifth film that Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren have appeared together in.

Word on the Street:  This is the first feature that legendary cinematographer Pasha Patriki has directed.

My Take:  It will be interesting to watch Van Damme fight in such tight quarters on a submarine.

What to Watch For: The film was nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear Award at the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival.

Word on the Street:  The film was shot in Utah to make it look like the old west.

My Take:  One of my favorite veteran actors, Robert Forster, is in this film, so you know I will see it.

The film opens exclusively on Friday at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema
