A young couple (Shailene Woodley, Sam Clafin)  who are avid sailors, head out on a small boat for the ride of a lifetime. What they don’t know is that they are about to head directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history.   Adrift Website

What to Watch For:  The film is based on a true story.

Word on the Street:  The film is directed by the award-winning producer/director Baltasar Kormakur.

My Take:  I’ll  see anything that Shailene Woodley is in.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Action Point  (2018) R

What to Watch For:  This film is from the writing team that wrote 2007’s Blades of Glory.

Word on the Street:  The story idea came from the star of the film, Johnny Knoxville.

My Take:  One of my favorite comedic actors, Dan Bakkedahl, is in this film.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

First Reformed (2017)  R

A former military chaplain (Ethan Hawke) is wracked with grief over the death of his son. A member  (Amanda Seyfried)  of his congregation loses her husband, a radical Environmentalist, and she takes up his mission.  First Reformed Website

What to Watch For:  The film won at the 2017 Venice Film Festival and the 2018 FEST International Film Festival.

Word on the Street: The film was written and directed by Paul Schrader.

My Take:  Ethan Hawke is getting some of his best reviews of his career for this film.

The film opens in Atlanta area theatres on Friday.

Filmworker  (2017)

Leon Vitali gave up an acting career to become filmmaker extraordinaire Stanley Kubrick’s right-hand man. Vatali was at Kubrick’s side when he made The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut. Filmworker Website

What to Watch For:  The director, Tony Zierra, was nominated for the Golden Eye award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

Word on the Street:  The film has interviews with Ryan O’Neal, Matthew Modine, and Danny Lloyd.

My Take:  I am a big fan of Kubrick, so I won’t be missing this film.

The film opens Friday exclusively at Landmark Midtown Art

Godzilla  (1998)  PG-13

After a nuclear accident occurs in the South Pacific, a giant mutated reptile invades North America. It is up to Dr. Niko Tatopoulos (Mathew Broderick), a scientist specializing in effects of nuclear radiation, who is recruited by the military to come up with a scheme to defeat the creature now known as, “Godzilla” before it destroys New York City.
