School Paper Discussion Session in Room 219!

We begin where we left off with Betty receiving a call from #TheBlackHood. He says that he is cleansing Riverdale of sinners, to satisfy Betty. He then mentions Polly–good grief. He knows exactly where she ran off to, and warns Betty that she should not tell Polly anything about his knowledge of her whereabouts. But, that’s not all of the threatening he does. He says Mama Cooper is a thorn that needs to be removed. His entire laundry list of demands begins with taking Alice Cooper down, by publishing an article with a front page spread of her mugshot. So shady, Black Hood! Betty publishes the article after Mama Cooper accuses her of forging #TheBlackHood letter. Betty confides in Archie, and he promises to support and protect her. She lies to #TheBlackHood about being alone during their phone call, which could be a problem later?

Pen Pal Meet-Up

The Lodges prepare for a visit from the St. Clair family, where a blast from Veronica’s past comes in the form of a sleazy, blue-eyed wonder named Nick. But this is no cordial visit, knowing The Lodges. The Southside development needs investors, and that’s where Hiram wants the St. Clairs to come in. Veronica proves her loyalty to the family by welcoming them to their hotel, and Nick back into her life. Nick is a hot mess. I’m just going to say it. He comes on a little strong with the flirtation with Veronica, while in front of Archie. He also offers “dessert,” which we usually think of as pie or cake, right? Nope–cocaine.

ECON 101: Supply & Demand

Meanwhile, Betty keeps receiving calls from #TheBlackHood with the following demands:

  • Get Mama Cooper out of the way
  • Eliminate Veronica from her life
  • Get rid of Jughead

It’s incredibly sad seeing Betty complete these demands, but is she revealing what everyone has been thinking or has wanted to do? Although they are best friends, Betty has to eliminate Veronica from her life. She does this during a party organized by Nick, in the wondrous location of a dimly lit hotel room. He brings the blasted “jingle jangle” and things get a little freaky (including Cheryl developing a crush on Nick). At the party, Betty tells Veronica that she’s spoiled and rich, and is only doing this because her friend Nick has popped into the scene. After the party, Nick gets a bit aggressive and tries to coerce Veronica into have a bit of freaky fun. Veronica isn’t having it, and gives him the firm slap that we’ve been wanting to give him the entire episode. This is a foreshadowing moment to Nick’s attempt to date rape Cheryl at The Lodges’ open house. Yep, Nick is a pig. Don’t worry though, Josie and the Pussycats (including Veronica) stormed into the hotel room before he could do anything to her. Way to go, girls!

Rush Week Starts This Monday!

Meanwhile on the Southside, Jughead finds out that the Serpents want to create a pipe bomb in retaliation for the fight in last week’s episode. But, don’t worry–Jughead has a plan. He goes through a few literal trials and tribulations, during the Serpent initiation process. The first trial including being awakened by men in masks and a dog? That seems like an awful alarm clock. Secondly, he memorizes the Law of the Serpent and has to spew it back to the members at the bar. He also gets bitten by a snake here (literally). But, his final trial was one we could hardly stomach. He was to walk through a line of gut punches, head throws and the final brass knuckle. And, he completed it! But, that wasn’t his last trial though…Betty was demanded to get rid of Jughead, so she pleads for Archie to tell him for her. He does (right before the gut-punching, might I add), and Jughead seems to not take it so well. After he completes his trials, and is officially a Serpent, he gets a kiss from Toni. NOOOO!!!

No Lying to the Principal

After completing all of #TheBlackHood’s demands, Betty asks his identity. He tells her to go to an abandoned house, where he leaves a gift wrapped hood for Betty to adorn. She puts it on, and #TheBlackHood tells her to look in the mirror behind her. He says they are the same, and then there’s a creak in the floor. RUN, BETTY! But she can’t run too far, because #TheBlackHood sees all. At the end of the episode, he calls her again and reveals that he has been watching her the entire time. He knows she told Archie about what was happening, and says he will kill Polly as a result. Betty pleads with him not to kill her, and he demands a sinner’s name in return. Guess who she volunteers to die? Nick.
