Phew! Get it while it’s hot! This week’s Riverdale Recap is here for you!
Don’t Forget Your Library Card
We begin the episode with very creepy serial killers in the library. We’ve all wondered about those random aisles in the third floor of the school library, apparently apparitions of serial killers from the past reside there. I think I’ll stay away.
No Cyberbullying Allowed!
Everyone is shocked by Archie’s bravado video against the #BlackHood. It has the entire town afraid. Shops are closing early, the Mayor has an Emergency Town Hall meeting to talk about concerns, and things just seem to get a little bit darker as the #BlackHood still roams Riverdale. While Archie has taken the original post down, the entire town has reposted it at some point, so everyone begins to defy Archie’s actions. Even Fred Andrews isn’t a fan of the video. He actually feels as if Archie is antagonizing the serial killer, and begins to question Archie’s character. Everyone goes against Archie, including the principal and the football team. The principal decided to disband the football team until Archie writes an apology letter to the entire Riverdale community. Archie isn’t bothered, and won’t do it–even after being confronted by Reggie and the other Bulldogs.
Most Likely to be Loyal
Meanwhile at the Lodge’s humble abode, they discuss The Red Circle video. Hiram immediately stands with Hermione, stating that Veronica should steer clear of Archie because of this violence-inducing video. But, you know with The Lodges, there’s always a bit of suspicion. Veronica later confronts Archie about the video and suggests that her parents were correct about how strongly Archie has come to think about the #BlackHood. It almost seems as if he’s going crazy…hmm…However, after Archie explains that Hiram told him to “fight fire with fire [and] fight terror with terror,” she confronts Hiram of manipulating Archie. This results in Veronica showing the utmost loyalty for her man from then on. She even makes Red Circle t-shirts, turning it into a stylish trend rather than a scary notion. Veronica, you rock. But, Hermione reminds Veronica later that “blind loyalty” isn’t the way to go.

Betty discovers a letter addressed to her from the #BlackHood. He states that he is doing all of his killing for her. He was “inspired” by her speech at the Jubilee, and even included a cipher for her to decode where he would strike next. She keeps the letter from Mama Cooper, but shows her the cipher. Of course, our lovely Mama, publishes the cipher in the local newspaper for everyone to try and solve. Speaking of solving the cipher, Jughead has a moment of weakness with Toni and decides to (first of all) ignore Betty’s call and try to figure out the cipher with Toni.
When You’re a Jet, You’re a Jet All the Way!
After being confronted by the football team, Archie thinks that the #BlackHood is a Northsider murderer. He says
going to the Southside would be the best bet. No one supports him going to the Southside, except Doiley. He reminds Archie that he has a gun and he should head to the “hunting shop” on the outskirts of town to get the supplies he needs. Archie goes to the supply shop, after Veronica stops by his house to pledge her loyalty to him. He heads to the store and purchases a gun under the name of Wilbur Wilkins (…ew). He then starts marking the Southside area with graffitied red circles. The Southside Serpents confront him as he’s mid-circle on a garage door, and threaten him with a knife. However, Archie pulls out his gun with a sideways aim (meaning, he means business), and scares them away. But, they weren’t scared for long, as they interrupted the football team/Archie reunion at his place a few nights later. The Serpents propose a fight, and Archie has his Bulldogs (a.k.a Red Circle) to back him up. There is a rain-filled, dramatic Sharks vs. Jets fight in the streets that ends with both Veronica shooting the gun (that she lied and told Archie she threw in Sweetwater River, by the way) in the air, and Doiley getting stabbed in the thigh.
PTA Meeting Cancelled?
Meanwhile, Betty gets jealous of Toni and Jughead’s interactions, and suggests they all have a “cipher-decoding” party. But, that didn’t go so well. Toni suggests that Betty automatically discriminates against the Southside because the #BlackHood has targeted Northsiders. She also insults Betty’s ponytail? How dare you. But, is it really that she’s just a tad bit jealous that #Bughead is a thing? I think so. They leave, and eventually Betty realizes that cipher was made specifically for her. She and Jug go to the library and find a Nancy Drew book that helps them solve the mystery. The #BlackHood says that he is going to strike where it all began. And they realize that it all began at the Jubilee, where the Emergency Town Hall meeting is happening. It is here that Mama Cooper confronts the Southside as a problem. She suggests Southside High should be closed, with an increase of deputies patrolling the area to avoid situations such as this. Even Mama Blossom is there. She looks a lot better, by the way. Jughead and Betty interrupt the meeting, exclaiming that the #BlackHood is on his way to strike again. Betty pulls the fire alarm so everyone can get out. They go back home and she shows Mama Cooper the letter from the #BlackHood.
Archie and Veronica go to Sweetwater River after she finishes patching up his bruises from the fight. They end up actually throwing the gun into the river, while we hear Jughead’s narration reminding us that THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN. Did you catch that? Cause we did. And we end the episode with Betty getting an unknown call… it’s from the #BlackHood.
Shook–we are shook. Find out what happens in your next issue of the Riverdale Recap!
