Our story begins in 1988 where we see a young Ray Palmer being chased through a secret facility with guards hot on his tail. Cornered, it seems as if Ray the Younger is giving up when he snatches the keys from a guard and attempts to open a door. Just as he does, we see the guard raise his gun.

In the present, Ray the Elder is attempting a team building exercise to help integrate Zari in to the fold.  As part of the exercise, Ray convinces Mick to do a trust fall. Just as Mick falls back, Ray disappears causing Rory to hit the ground. Stunned, the crew asks their sentient artificial intelligence Gideon what happened. Gideon pulls up a newspaper from 1988 that shows Ray Palmer was killed on Halloween so off the team goes to the Bush 1 era to find out what’s going on.

Once the team arrive in 1988 a day before Ray the Younger is murdered, Ray the Elder reappears on the ship as if nothing has happened. He’s quickly brought up to speed and deduces his murder has yet to be solidified in the time stream which means there’s still a chance to save him.

Dressed in their finest, 80s gear, the Legends shadow Ray the Younger to help keep him safe. They see Ray shoplift some candy and bullied by neighborhood kids before he finally makes it home. Ray the Elder peers in on his younger self and thinks he realizes how he meets his demise: Ray the Younger stole candy not for himself, but for an alien looking creature he has hidden under his bed known as a Dominator (alien creatures we saw in the Supergirl/Flash/Arrow/Legends cross-series story line Invasion). The creature under the bed is a baby, but they are still very powerful creatures.

Ray the Younger is a very smart yet lonely child and the baby Dominator he names “Gumball” is his only friend; they spend time playing and watching musicals on tv. While Ray the Younger fixes some popcorn form himself and his alien pal, Ray the Elder and Zari sneak in to try to capture Gumball because it is an anachronism the Legends have to chase down when they broke time (see previous shows and recaps).

Just as Zari & Ray the Elder are about to capture Gumball, young Ray comes back to the room forcing Zari to hide under the bed and Elder Ray to shrink down to his action figure size, something Gumball finds amusing and begins to play with him. While young Ray and Gumball watch tv, Mama Palmer shows up forcing Ray the Younger to hide his new friend in the closet.

When Mama Palmer confronts her son on his truancy, Gumball begins to get angry. Realising this can go very bad very fast Ray the Elder asks his teammates on over-watch (not to be confused with Felicity Smoak who goes by that codename on “Arrow”, Thursdays at 9:00 on ATLCW) Amaya & Nate to cause a distraction. The pair ring the doorbell drawing Mama Palmer out of the room.

The minute she opens the front door, Nate goes in to mack-daddy mode because Mama Palmer is rather hot. The three have a conversation that leads to Mama Palmer lamenting her sons anti-social, nerdy tendencies that is over heard by her son. Feeling he’s not wanted or loved, Ray the Younger grabs his elder self, still in miniaturized size, Gumball & runs away from home.

Back on the ship, Mick, Stein & Jefferson stayed behind. Jefferson, due to his link with Stein because of their fused state as Firestorm the Nuclear Man, feels his partner is hiding something from him. Mick jumps to the conclusion that Stein has been secretly selling their team out to their foes the Time Bureau (started by their former captain Rip Hunter) after he discovered the travel logs on the jump ship have been deleted. When Stein is confronted by the pair he admits he’s deleted the logs but not for the reason they think: in “the present”, his daughter is about to give birth to his first and only grandchild so he went back to the future to give her a trans-spacial communication device. This way she will be able to communicate with him no matter where in time they are so he’ll know when she goes in to labor so he can be there. Turns out, the baby is coming “now”, so the 3 take the wave runner and jet off to the future leaving the rest of the team without transportation.

Before Stein & crew took off in the Wave Rider, Gideon detected another time ship in the area which of course they think is

the Time Bureau so Sara goes to investigate. Instead of the TeeBees, Sara runs in to a full grown Dominator who turns out to be the mama to Gumball. A brief battle ensues that finds Sara captured. Mama Dominator uses her powers to read Sara’s mind and learns that her precious baby was last at Ray’s house.

Speaking of Ray, back in the woods behind his house Zari is searching for him when she stumbles upon his hidden club house. As the two talk, some shadowy Men In Black type show up and take them both in to custody while Ray the Elder & Gumball hitch a ride in the younger Ray’s back pack. At the MIB HQ, Ray the Elder frees Zari and rescues his younger self, preventing him from being killed by the guard. Ray the Younger also wants to save Gumball which his elder self thinks is a bad idea due to the power the creature has.

While Ray debates himself, other guards arrive and Ray the Elder thinks things are about to go REAL bad when all of a sudden the guards…break in to a song and dance. Gumball is mind-controlling the guards and instead of killing them, he makes them perform a number from “Singing in the Rain” that he heard while watching tv with his pal Ray the Younger.

Sara, meanwhile, has freed herself from Mama Dominator’s binding and tells Amaya & Nate to head to Ray’s to head her off. When Nate arrives, “Mama Palmer”  is there and is seeming pretty randy. She throws Nate down on the couch and just as it seems they’re about to get it going, Amaya arrives and lets Nate know that what he’s about to kiss isn’t his teammates mom, but an alien creature.

A brief fight ensues in the Palmer household when Nate & Amaya think that discretion is the better part of valor and takes off with Mama Dominator in hot pursuit. The Rays & Zari grab up Gumball from the MIB HQ and take off  like a scene out of “ET the Extra-terrestrial” with the goal of reuniting it with his mama. All parties converge in the woods near the Palmer household for the happy mother and child reunion. Mama grabs her baby and takes off; crisis averted.

As the show Jefferson realises how much Stein is giving up to be part of the Legends, what with the birth of his grandchild so he seeks Ray’s help to separate from Stein while still being able to call forth Firestorm.  Be sure to tune in to “Legends of Tomorrow” next Tuesday at 9:00 to see how it turns out.
