The woods can hold many tales and secrets, but when you’re “night jogging” (a.k.a. cruising for a hookup) in the woods like Kevin, things might end up a little differently. Betty completely disapproves of this cruising, and tries to talk him out of doing it later in the episode. However, we begin where we left off last episode as Midge and Moose are shot by #TheBlackHood in the car as they tripped on “jingle jangle.” Kevin was going for his nightly “jog” and hears the gunshots go off. We find out Moose shielded Midge with her body, and Kevin helps Moose recover from his wounds. This is great because later on in the hospital, Moose tells Kevin he is welcome to visit him any time. Run to your man, Kevin.

#TheBlackHood vs. #TheRedCircle Wrestling Match

Veronica wants everyone to come over to the Lodge household and watch The Bachelorette. Is this a sly attempt for everyone to meet her father? Why, yes it is! Veronica, you sly girl. This happens, of course, because Hiram happily says yes to the invite. It’s here where everyone is enjoying the rose ceremony, while Hiram gathers a different interest–Archie. He knows Archie is looking to protect himself and advises him to take matters into his own hands. Well, sweet Archie-kins does just that when he finds a Red Circle comic in a box with his gun at home. At the end of the episode, Archie and his new group of “watchdogs” vow to protect Riverdale from #TheBlackHood despite Sheriff Keller’s subtle protests. After Hiram invited Archie over for a private chat in his man cave the following week, Archie got bold. He had a Liam Neeson moment whilst live-streaming #TheRedCircle’s threat video, telling #TheBlackHood: “we will find you, we will hunt you…” By the way, Hiram watched the entire stream from the comfort of his desk chair, sitting underneath the portrait of Veronica that “keeps [him] honest.” Manipulation was a strong action in this week’s episode.

New Writers in the School Paper

Speaking of #TheBlackHood, he sends a letter to Mama Cooper demanding she compose an article explaining to the entire town that he is the culprit of all of this turmoil. And, we definitely remember what he did, right? Just in case you forgot:

-Shot Fred

-Shot Midge and Moose

-Killed Miss GRUNDY!!

Yeah, he’s done a lot. But we find out that he kills with a motive? Is that even a thing? The past few “incidents” have involved sin of some sort. He says he’s killed the “child predator” and shot the “drug- and sex-addicted teenagers in Lover’s Lane.” Who could be next? Well, Polly definitely thinks she is. Yup, hey girl. To get away from all the madness, she ends up leaving the Cooper house for the farm that she and Jason were to live in. Goodness, where is this GOING?!

Emergency Exit Drill

Meanwhile, Jughead is getting sucked into his new school of Serpents. There’s a gang called The Ghoulies that ends up jumping poor

Jughead. He’s just trying to answer questions about Fahrenheit 451 and trying to force his way out of a locked emergency exit door! We don’t need this! He (unwillingly) makes a friend, Toni, who happens to be a Serpent herself…and might cause a bit of a problem for Betty, we think?

Don’t Talk to Me in Homeroom

Back to Kevin. With his “night jog” to the woods to hook up with random men, Kevin gets a dose of reality in two ways:

  1. Cheryl (who is the Mistress of Eavesdropping in this episode) and Betty stage an intervention in the woods to catch Kevin in the act. Kevin then gets extremely real, and says that this is all he has in such a small town like Riverdale. No one is able to understand what it’s like to be different in a town where small minds run rampant.
  2. Kevin didn’t really get the picture after that intervention, and meets a man in the woods driving a car with a bird-like symbol on its hood. We don’t see the man’s eyes…which made us uneasy. It also made Kevin uneasy, and he rushed home where his father was waiting for him. This was a moment that scared us, then made us cry. Why? Because Sheriff Keller gave a stern warning to Kevin about his actions, but offered himself up with an open heart and mind to talk to him about anything from now on. Good talk, Sheriff!

Even though we had such a good moment with Kevin and his dad, things aren’t the same with him and Betty. They see each other in the hallway and *GASP* Kevin shades Betty with a look that could kill and an ignored “hello.” Yeah, we don’t know how this is going to pan out.

Tune in next week, and catch up with us on the next issue of the Riverdale Recap!
