Sunday night I attended the Red Carpet and screening of Paul Feig’s new comedy “Spy” starring Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jason Statham, Morena Baccarat and Jude Law. Melissa McCarthy plays Susan Cooper; a deskbound CIA analyst who is the eyes and ears for a dashing agent played by Jude Law. When he is killed, Susan goes into to the field to find the killer and get back a stolen nuclear device.

Hi Melissa, I am from Atlanta’s CW, and we air “Mike and Molly.”

Melissa McCarthy: Oh, that is where I am living right now. I mean not right now but I am shooting there now. I fly back to Atlanta tonight.

So how would Molly do as a spy?

Melissa: She may fare a little better. She a little saucier. I think she would be great at it. She is a little more headstrong than my character, Susan, in the film, at least in the beginning. But she would probably fall just as much.

Now I usually ask why did you do this film, but I know that Paul Feig only had to say “I have an idea” and you would say yes.

Melissa: Exactly. I read it, and I said yes. In fact, I said, “I beg you, I beg you let me do it.” Then I hounded him and then he said ok. I mean it’s Paul Feig and that cast and the script. There wasn’t a single negative to it. I just had to do it.

Thank you, Melissa and enjoy your time in Atlanta.

Hi Paul

Paul Feig: Hi

What is the inspurantion for this film?

Paul: I am a big James Bond fanatic and a Borne fanatic. I just love spy movies and have always wanted to do one. But I realized that no one would let me direct one because I am a comedy director, so I thought, I love working with funny women, let me write my own female driven one. It all came alive in my head after that.

What a great cast this film has!

Paul: Oh my gosh, I can’t believe half this cast joined this film. I mean I have comedians in my films all the time but in this one I have legitimate actors like Jude Law, Rose Byrne and Jason Statham. It’s really a thrill.

Good Luck with the movie and enjoy SXSW!

Paul: Thank you!
