(2013) Due to some cataclysmic events, Earth was abandoned over 1000 years ago. Cypher Raige (Will Smith) leads a peacekeeping mission to explore Earth when he and his son, Kitai (Jaden Smith), are the sole survivors of a crash landing. Now father and son must team up to survive a world populated by dangerous, wild animals. After Earth Website

What to Watch For: The film is based on an original story by Will Smith, an idea he got while watching the cable TV show, “I Shouldn’t Be Alive.”

Word on the Street: While Will Smith is the big star of the film, this is really Jaden Smith’s movie, as his character will have to overcome a lot to save his father’s life.

My Take: Director M. Night Shyamalan needs a hit after his last three films, including 2010’s “The Last Airbender,” haven’t exactly set the box office on fire.

(2013) A team of illusionists, led by J. Daniel (Jesse Eisenberg) and Merritt (Woody Harrelson), are robbing banks while performing magic in front of audiences. It’s up to a FBI agent (Mark Ruffalo) and an Interpol detective (Melanie Laurent) to not only stop the team, but to find out what’s the team’s magic secret of robbery success? Now You See Me Website

What to Watch For: Besides Eisenberg, Harrelson and Ruffalo, the awesome cast includes Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Common.

Word on the Street: The director of the film, Louis Leterrier, is a veteran of the big action films directing “The Transporter” (2002), “The Incredible Hulk” (2008) and 2010’s “Clash of the Titans.”

My Take: I am a big fan of Jesse Eisenberg and can’t wait to see him in this role, which is a 180 degree turn from his usual roles.

(2013) To say that Frances (Greta Gerwig) is a free spirit would be an understatement. She lives in New York but doesn’t have an apartment, she’s a dancer but doesn’t get paid for it and her best friend hasn’t spoken to her in weeks. Now Frances decides that it’s time for a change. Hope New York City is ready for what Frances has in mind. Frances Ha Website

What to Watch For: The film was shot in Black and White as an homage to the Woody Allen film, “Manhattan” (1979).

Word on the Street: Critics are raving about Greta Gerwig’s performance. Gerwig also co-wrote the script.

My Take: The director, Noah Baumbach, co-wrote the script with his girlfriend, Gerwig. Baumbach wrote some of my favorite films of the past few years, including the 2009 film, “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”

(2013) A young girl, Maisie (Onata Aprile) is caught in the middle of a custody batter between her parents, a rock singer (Julianne Moore) and an art dealer (Steve Coogan). What Maisie Knew Website

What to Watch For: Critics are raving about the performance of Onata Aprile as the spunky Maisie.

Word on the Street: Alexander Skarsgard continues to impress audiences with his performances; this time in the role of a sweet, slightly shy bartender who gets involved with Julianne Moore’s aging rock star character.

My Take: I am looking forward to this film, as it has gotten a number of good reviews.
