Opening this week in a theatre near you:

Captain America: The First Avenger: Chris Evans plays Steve Rogers who, after being declared too small and unfit for the Army, volunteers for a secret branch of the government. Rogers gets turned into Captain America. His first mission is to take down an elite Nazi troupe led by a man known as The Red Skull. Fans of the comic books have been talking about this series since the first movie posters came out. Chris Evans has donned the super-hero costume before (The Human Torch in the Fantastic 4 movies), so he should be worthy of throwing that red, white, and blue shield around.

Friends with Benefits: Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake star in this romantic comedy about two jaded people who are tired of playing the dating game and decide to make a pact to just be “friends with benefits”. Kunis is coming off her Oscar nomination (The Black Swan) and Timberlake is riding the success of his Saturday Night Live performances, so this should be a really funny movie. It doesn’t hurt that Easy A director Will Gluck is helming this movie and that the supporting cast includes Woody Harrelson, Andy Samberg, and Jenna Elfman.

Viva Riva!: Riva is a small-time operator that has just come across a load of fuel in the gas-starved Democratic Republic of the Congo. Riva sees this as his ticket to the big time, but he has a lot of people out to get him, including a ruthless crime boss. Of course, it doesn’t help that Riva has his sights set on the crime boss’s girlfriend. This African genre film has critics talking about the big action sequences and its colorful depiction of the night life in the Congo capital.

Rush Hour 2 (2001): In this sequel to the 1998 megahit Rush Hour, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan team up again getting mixed up in a counterfeit investigation that starts out in the streets of Hong Kong and ends up in the casinos of Las Vegas. Along the way, they meet a sexy undercover Secret Service agent (played by Without a Trace’s Roselyn Sanchez) who enlists their help in her investigation. Be sure to look for a quick cameo appearance from Nikita’s Maggie Q.
