Specializing in wood-fire grilled thin crust pizza, Shorty’s isn’t the most obvious pick for best guacamole, but don’t let that fool you. Shorty’s guac is “mashed to order,” ending the debate of chunky versus smooth. Once you’ve had your fill, customize your pizza with one of the 30 pizza toppings including basil, capers, toasted walnuts, asparagus or soprasetta. Shorty’s menu features other entrees and signature pies with predetermined toppings. If you’re a little outside the city, you can visit the Tucker location, which offers a more developed listing of non-pizza entrees such as the Shrimp Po-Boy.

For lovers of creamier guacamole, Agave is hands-down your best bet. The guacamole is smooth, but still with chunks of diced tomatoes and onions throughout. The New Mexico Hatch green chile stew at Agave is a must-try, but you can still sample plenty of other inspired dishes like Bear Braised Pork Shank or the Veal, Chorizo & Green Chile Meatloaf. Agave is also known for its well-developed tequila offerings, including 10 reserve tequilas.
