Multiple locations, for more information check their website

Flip’s burgers are unconventional. They are just 5.5 ounces, but they are 5.5 ounces of wonderful. Chef Richard Blais is interested in creative toppings and flavors. He also doesn’t limit his burgers to beef: tuna tartare, lamb, chick peas and more all can serve as patties. Some purists may not approve of this type of innovation, Flip’s fare makes our list for being different, and delicious.

Atlanta, GA 30307

Atlanta, GA 30309

The Vortex is all attitude. What would you expect from a place that proudly touts itself as an “Idiot-Free Zone” that reserves the right to give you the boot “if you are offended by the obnoxious strippers sitting at the table next to you.” You can really only have swagger like that if you have the goods to back it up: their burgers do just that. They’ve got a wide variety of delicious variations including a so-called “Hell Burger” with jabanero relish or one topped with grilled ham (among many others). If you’re completely crazy you might try their Super-Stach Heart Attack Burger – two half-pound patties served between three grilled cheese sandwiches and topped with two fried eggs, ten slices of bacon and more.

A very straightforward, reliable burger joint. Each patty is a quarter pound of certified angus beef (turkey and veggie patties are available too, though). Double it up if you want, select your toppings, and you’re off to the races.

Where to start? The decor is, shall we say, humble. Very humble. The service is glacially slow. The proprietor has a reputation for being surly. And the “Ghetto Burger” may be the best in America. You read that right: many people swear it is the best burger they’ve ever had, bar none. It’s two gigantic beef patties piled on top of each other, lettuce, tomato, onions, bacon, chili, ketchup and mustard. That reads like a usual list of ingredients, but trust us, somehow Miss Ann takes those ingredients and turns them into something truly special. Ann’s Snack Bar is famous for its rules (make sure you strictly follow them) and also for the incredibly long wait to get in. Don’t just saunter in: wait until you’re summoned, or you will be dismissed from the premises.
