After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns to his country only to be challenged by a rival faction. Now T’Challa as the Black Panther teams up with C.I.A. agent Ross (Martin Freeman) to keep his countrymen free. Black Panther Website

What to Watch For:  The fighting in this film is based on African martial arts.

Word on the Street:  Rachel Morrison is the cinematographer on the film.  Morrison is up for an Oscar for her work on Mudbound (2017). Morrison also worked on Ryan Coogler’s award-winning film Fruitvale Station  (2013).

My Take:  I can’t wait to see this highly anticipated film.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Early Man  (2018)  PG

Forced out of their homeland by the evil Lord Nooth, Dug, and his fellow tribe members unite to take on the Bronze Age City dwellers in a game of soccer. Early Man Website

What to Watch For:  The film is directed by Nick Park, who is responsible for Chicken Run (200) and the Wallace & Gromit series.

Word on the Street:  The strong voice cast is led by Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams, Eddie Redmayne, and Timothy Spall.

My Take:  I love Nick Park’s films.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Detective Chinatown 2  (2018)

When the case of New York Chinatown godfather Uncle Qi’s missing son turns into a murder investigation, the detective duo Tang and Qin team up again to hunt down the killer—this time with some help from the International Detective Alliance. Detective Chinatown 2 website

What to Watch For:  The first film was a massive hit in China.

Word on the Street:  The film is opening during the Chinese New Year holiday.

My Take:  I am always up for a good international comedy.

The film opens in Atlanta area theatres on Friday.

Happy End  (2017)  R

Georges (Jean-Louis Trintignant), the patriarch of the family, is gradually succumbing to dementia.  His son (Mathieu Kassovitz) and daughter  (Isabelle Huppert) are slowly destroying his business. Happy End Website

What to Watch For:  The film was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

Word on the Street:  This is the fourth film that director Michael Haneke has made with Isabelle Huppert.

My Take:  This film was Austria’s submission to the Foreign Language Film Award of the 90th Annual Academy Awards.

The film opens Friday exclusively at The Springs Cinema and Taphouse
