What to Watch For:  The film won the Audience Award at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

Word on the Street: The film is based on a true story.

My Take:  I have been a fan of Lakeith Stanfield since his appearance in the film, Short Term 12.

Opens Friday at Atlanta area theatres.

City of Ghosts  (2017) R

A documentary about the efforts of ‘Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently’ movement showing a group of activists who banded together to show how their homeland was taken over by ISIS in 2014.

What to Watch For: The film has won eight awards at film festivals including the Silver Heart Award at the 2017 Dallas International Film Festival.

Word on the Street:   The film was bought by Amazon Studios for two million dollars.

My Take: The film has a 99 rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 80 critics reviewing the film.

What to Watch For:  Lake Bell wrote the screenplay, stars in the film and directs it.

Word on the Street:  The impressive cast includes Ed Helms, May Steenburgen, Paul Reiser, Amber Heard, Chace Crawford and Wyatt Cenac.

My Take:  I loved Lake Bell’s film In A World…

The Fencer  (2015)

What to Watch For: The film is based on a true story.

Word on the Street: The film received a Golden Globe nomination.

My Take:  The Fencer is at 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Trip to Spain  (2017)

What to Watch For:   This is the third “Trip” film.  The other films are The Trip (2010) and The Trip to Italy (2014).

Word on the Street:  The director of the film, Michael Winterbottom, directed the other two films in the series.

My Take:  I look forward to this film as I have loved the first two in this series.

Tulip Fever  (2016)  R

In 17th Century Amsterdam, an orphaned girl (Alicia Vikander) is forced into marriage with a wealthy and powerful merchant (Christoph Waltz).  Her husband commissions a struggling artist (Dan DeHaan) to paint his wife’s portrait.  In a time where the whole country is going nuts over the tulip bulb market, the young artist and the woman he supposed to be painting start a passionate affair. What to Watch For:  The cast includes three Academy Award winning actors; Judi Dench, Alicia Vikander, and Christoph Waltz.

Word on the Street:  Oscar winning writer Tom Stoppard adapted the screenplay for the film.

My Take:  I thought Alicia Vikander should have gotten an Oscar nomination for her role in Ex Machina (2014).

The film opens in Atlanta area theatres on Friday.

If you can’t go to the theatre this weekend, then stay at home at watch movies this weekend on Atlanta’s CW.

Napoleon Dynamite  (2004) An alienated teenager (Jon Heder) deals with his bizarre family life while helping his new friend (Efen Ramirez) campaign for the class presidency in their small-town high school.
