What to Watch For:  This film is the first installment of Universal Studios Monsters universe.

Word on the Street:  Javier Bardem, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Eddie Redmayne were all considered for the role of Dr. Henry Jekyll before Russell Crowe was cast.

My Take:  The trailer makes me really want to see this movie starring Tom Cruise.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Megan Leavey  (2017)

Megan Leavey (Kate Mara) is a troubled soul who has lost her best friend. She decides to join the Marines and become a bomb-sniffing dog handler. The bond she develops with her dog allows her to save many Marines’ lives on over 100 missions. Megan Leavey Website

What to Watch For:  The film is based on a true story.

Word on the Street:  Portions of the film were shot in the Toco Hills area of Atlanta and Rome, GA.

My Take:  The film has a talented cast including Bradley Whitford, Tom Felton, Common and Edie Falco.

The film opens Friday in Atlanta area theatres.

It Comes At Night  (2017)

A family lives in the isolated woods as the world is engulfed in a breakout of some sort of deadly plague.  Now their family is threatened when a young family arrives at the home wanting refuge. It Comes at Night Website

What to Watch For:  Writer/director Trey Edward Shults, directed the award-winning film Krisha (2014).

Word on the Street:  The film is currently at 90 percent on rottentomatoes.com,

My Take:  I am hearing great things about this film from other film critics who have seen it.

My Cousin Rachel  (2017)

What to Watch For:  The film was shot on location in Arezzo, Italy.

Word on the Street:  The film is based on the Daphne du Maurier book of the same name.

My Take:  I’ll see any film that has Rachel Weisz in it.

Paris Can Wait  (2017)

The wife (Diane Lane) of a successful movie producer takes a car trip from the south of France to Paris with one of her husband’s associates. To say that they are going to take the scenic route would be an understatement. Paris Can Wait Website

What to Watch For: This is the first narrative feature film by Eleanor Coppola.

Word on the Street:  The film premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

My Take:  Alec Baldwin in having a banner year.

I, Daniel Blake  (2016)

Daniel Blake is a 59-year-old man who had a heart attack at work. He is now caught in the system as his doctor tells him not to work, but the government says that he is fit to do so. I, Daniel Blake Website

What to Watch For:  The film won three awards at Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and the Outstanding British Film of the Year at the BAFTA Awards.

Word on the Street:  The film was shot in chronological order, and some of the actors were only given partial scripts so that they would react more naturally to events in the film.

My Take:  I am anxious to see this controversial film.

The Hunter’s Prayer  (2017)

What to Watch For:  Director Jonathan Mostow is known for the 2003 film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

Word on the Street:  The film was shot throughout Europe.

My Take:  It will be interesting to see what Sam Worthington does with this role.

Now Quinn must team up with a weapons dealer named, Yaz (Dennis Rodman), and go after Starvros after Starvros goes after Quinn’s family.

Road House  (1989) Dalton (Patrick Swayze) is the Cooler in bars, directing and backing up the bouncers. He is hired to clean up a bar that has gotten far too rough.
