Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons and a trained warrior. When a pilot named Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes his plane on the Amazons island, he tells Diana about a war that is going to end all wars.  Diana decides to go with Steve to help defend liberty. What to Watch For:  After making her first appearance as Wonder Woman, fans are ready to see Gal Gadot open her own film in the DC universe.

Word on the Street:  Patty Jenkins, the director of the film, is the first woman to direct a superhero film with a female protagonist.

My Take:  I loved Jenkins 2003 film Monster which won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature Film.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie  (2017)

When two school pranksters (Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch) are threatened by the Principal (Ed Helms) to be sent to separate rooms, the boys use a magic ring to hypnotize the Principal and turn him into the superhero Captain Underpants. Captain Underpants: The Epic First Movie Website

What to Watch For: The voice cast includes Kristen Schaal, Jordan Peele, and Nick Kroll.

Word on the Street:  The film is based on the children’s novel series of the same name by Dav Pikey.

My Take:  I love that “Weird Al” Yankovic wrote and performed the theme song for the film.

The film opens nationwide on Friday.

Churchill  (2017)

The film follows the leader of Great Britain ninety-six hours before D-Day. Churchill is a shadow of his former blustery self as self-doubts and fear have taken over his life. Will the invasion be the disaster that Churchill fears? Churchill Website

What to Watch For:  Brian Cox stars as Winston Churchill, Miranda Richardson as Clementine Churchill and John Slattery as Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Word on the Street:  The director of the film, Jonathan Teplitzky, is known for his 2013 film, The Railway Man.

My Take:  I always enjoy watching Brian Cox on the screen.

The film opens Friday at Regal Tara Cinemas 4, AMC Barrett Commons 24, and Regal Arbor Place.

What to Watch For:  The film won 2nd place for Best Documentary at the 2017 Portland International Film Festival.

Word on the Street:  The film is currently at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes with 43 reviews.

My Take:  Director Vanessa Gould is known for award-winning film, Between the Folds (2008) about people who practice the art of folding paper called Origami.

The film opens Friday exclusively at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema
