“Fight Fire with Fire” or Prometheus Revealed!!
Previously on Arrow: Mayor Oliver Queen helped cover up Officer Malone’s death, who was killed at the hands of the Green Arrow. The masked vigilante Prometheus tricked the Green Arrow into killing him, so Oliver, with the help of the D.A. Adrian Chase, convinced the medical examiner to give another cause of death.
The show starts with Ollie inundated by press when it became known he participated in the cover-up of Officer Malone’s death. Prometheus leaked this information because he’s got a personal vendetta against Mayor Queen and his alter ego because years ago the archer killed Prometheus’ father. Earlier in the season, Prometheus learned of Oliver’s secret identity when villain Tobias Church divulged the info to Prometheus in order to save his own life. Didn’t work though because Prometheus killed him anyway.
In order to help save Oliver’s administration from this scandal, Adrian offers to resign due to his part in the cover-up, but Ollie is having none of it. Now Oliver has to deal with the city council voting to impeach him. In the Arrow Lair, Curtis (“Mr. Terrific”) is hard at work on some tech that he feels will help him be a more productive member of the team since the physical part isn’t really his style (in other words, he’s tired of getting beat up). He calls them his T-Spheres, but Renee refers to them as Curtis’ balls.
Along with impending impeachment, Oliver also has to deal with the demise of his relationship with the reporter Susan. When she learned that Oliver was secretly the Green Arrow and confronted him about it, Thea convinced Felicity to hack into Susan’s computer where she planted evidence that made it seem as if Susan plagiarized the stories she reported on. This was done to destroy her credibility if she ever went public with Ollie’s secret. Susan was subsequently fired and blamed Oliver (who actually didn’t know what Thea and Felicity did) due to the timing of the hack and her subsequent firing. Because she’s not taking his calls, Ollie asks Felicity, his OLD girlfriend, to help him out with Susan, his NEW girlfriend, but Felicity is having none of it so he has to mend his own fences.
He gets his first opportunity during his impeachment hearing when Susan shows up to cover the proceeding for her fledgling blog. She’s still not in the mood to talk to Oliver who she holds responsible for being fired from her job. The hearing itself goes even worse; the city council calls the medical examiner and the head of the police task force Captain Pike, who both confirm that Mayor Queen did in fact participate in the cover up.
When Oliver and his team leave the hearing, Vigilante attacks the mayor’s limo causing it to flip and crash. The first to recover their senses is Black Canary, who gives one of her cries that knocks Vigilante down but not out. He’s able to get the upper hand on her and trusses her up. While Quentin gets the limo-driver to safety, Oliver confronts Vigilante without any weapons whatsoever. Ollie does his best jack rabbit impression as he hops around avoids Vigilante’s bullets until the police show up. Once he sees the lights and sirens, Vigilante makes a hasty retreat.
The team receives medical attention and Tina, who’s also a police officer, helps canvass the area for clues. She spots a piece of Vigilante’s visor that was knocked loose when she blasted him and calls Felicity with this bit of news. She plans to take it to the Arrow Lair for analysis, but before she can leave with the evidence, D.A. Chase who had been lurking in the background takes it from her and says he’ll log it in himself. At the police station, Tina’s able to sneak off with the visor piece after Adrian sets it down.
In the Arrow Lair, Curtis finally gets his T-Spheres working the way he wants and it locks onto the piece of Vigilante’s visor that has technology in it. They’ll be able to then use the spheres to track Vigilante wherever he may be.
At that moment though, Prometheus confronts Vigilante on a rooftop. Both want to destroy Oliver Queen and/or the Green Arrow, so the two fight to see who gets the honor. After a fierce battle, Prometheus ends up knocking Vigilante off the roof, then slowly walks away removing his mask with his back to the audience as he receives a phone call. The camera slowly pans around, and Prometheus is revealed to be none other than – are you ready – ADRIAN CHASE, THE D.A.!!!
Back at City Hall, Thea plans on blackmailing one of the city councilmen with some intel Felicity acquired through the hactivist group. When this gets back to Ollie, he tells her to stand down stating that if you fight fire with fire you’ll get burned.
The team, uses Curtis’ spheres to track down Vigilante who’s in a building across from City Hall where Mayor Queen is about to make a speech in regards to the cover-up. A battle ensues with Vigilante getting the best of them until Curtis uses his spheres to explode and incapacitate Vigilante who makes his escape anyway. During Mayor Queen’s speech, he throws his alter-ego under the bus, saying the Arrow isn’t a hero and not to be trusted. So, once again, the Arrow is a villain while Oliver is able to save his political career. It works because the council votes AGAINST impeachment.
As the show ends, Curtis who thinks he’s about to reunite with his estranged husband, is served with divorce papers instead. Thea decides to resign from the mayor’s office because politics brought out a side of her she didn’t like. And Susan gets her job back after Oliver gets Felicity to anonymously acknowledge Susan was hacked and the info was fake. As she’s about to head to meet Oliver to celebrate, D.A. Adrian “Prometheus” Chase confronts Susan and kidnaps her!
