Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Makes a Pit Stop in Atlanta

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical marks its debut at Outfront Theatre Company this Thursday. This will be the theatre’s inaugural season, so why not begin it with some fabulous, honey.

I sat down with some of the cast of the show and they shared their excitement about turning a well-known film into a one-of-a-kind musical event. If you’re not familiar with the movie or the production, Priscilla follows a fantastic performing trio as they embark on an adventure across the Australian Outback. Two drag queens and a transgender woman make up this trio, so you better prepare yourself for the glitz and the glam. To me, I am thankful for this show because it continues to give light and significance to the LGBTQIA community. It’s a very “melodic” type of activism that I am all about.

I had never seen the movie until now, and I have fallen in love with everything about it. But, I didn’t stop there. I wanted to see what it’d be like to transform myself into something a little more extravagant. With the help of some amazing performers from the show (Dakota, especially), Kennedi Star made her grand (albeit short) debut. I had never walked in heels before—nailed it. I’ve never worn lipstick before—I made it work. I was completely changed. I sashayed onto the stage and no one could tell me anything (except that I looked glamorous, of course). It was a SURREAL experience that made me truly respect and adore what these performers are going to give you over these next few weeks.  Get your stilettos ready guys and gals, it’s going to be a show that you will not want to miss.
