“The Secret Life of Pets”  (2016)

Max (Louis C.K.), a terrier, is living the good life. He has an owner, Katie (Ellie Kemper), who spoils him. He has great friends like Gidget (Jenny Slate) whom he talks to on a daily basis. That all changes when Katie brings home another dog named Duke (Eric Stonestreet).  Now Max is going to have to show Duke that he is running the show in this apartment. “The Secret Life of Pets” Website

What to Watch For:  It’s got an wide range voice cast which, along with Louis C.K., Slate, and Stonestreet, includes Kevin Hart, Steve Coogan, Lake Bell, Albert Brooks, and Hannibal Buress.

“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”  (2016)

Michael (Adam DeVine) and David (Zac Efron) have a history of ruining their family events. They are told by their parents that they must attend their sister’s upcoming wedding with respectable dates. They meet Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza) and Alice (Anna Kendrick), and they seem like the perfect date material. Little do they know that Tatiana and Alice are a parent’s worst nightmare. “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” Website

What to Watch For:  The director of the film, Jake Szymanski, has mostly directed TV, including the comedy series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”

Word on the Street:  The film was shot in Hawaii.

My Take:  I am interested to see how Ann Kendrick does as a comedic bad boy.

What to Watch For:  The film is directed by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney, who has put some great films out in recent years like “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine” (2015) and “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief” (2015).

Word on the Street:  The film was nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear award at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.

My Take:  I am guessing I am going to be really worried after seeing this film.
