Hello There Legendary Followers,
Our episode starts off with Vandal Savage questioning Rip Hunter after Rip’s first attempt to kill Savage way back in 1700 BCE in Ancient Egypt. Savage taunts Hunter, and Rip stays heroic.
Back on the ship in the present time (sorta), the crew is celebrating a mission almost accomplished as they have captured Savage. Captain Cold is really angry that they haven’t killed savage. The Atom has discovered that Savage is using tech from the future even further ahead than 2166, which is against the rules the Time Masters play by. Rip decided to take them to the Vanishing Point to turn Savage in.
Savage and Hunter have another conversation, this time with Hunter as jailer and Savage as prisoner. When confronted about the far-future tech, Savage says that he learned to time travel from Rip. Savage talks of his kids who have died and how he plays a deep game. Hunter just calls him a fascist.
Hawkgirl and Atom try and convince a brainwashed Carter Hall that he’s, y’know, Carter Hall. Carter holds tightly to his new identity, and says he knows all about Hawkgirl because he has been told about his enemies by Savage.
White Canary and Rip have a conversation in which we learn that the ship is in bad shape due to Savage’s last attack. Canary also points out that when they brought Savage on board that the timeline where he kills Rip’s kids didn’t change. Hunter seems shaken. The ship is literally shaking, but Rip seems to think that it will stay together. Of course, then it fails.
The time drive seems to be out. Stein worries about being stuck in the middle of the time stream. Rip sends Jax to fix the time drive while telling Stein that there is a jump ship with the ability to do one final jump to 2016. Canary goes to guard Savage who goads her and says Hunter picked them all because they are easy to manipulate. Canary blows it off.
Jax finds a giant crack in the time drive. As he works on it, Stein and Rip note that he is being irradiated. Rip seems blase about this, and of course, then it sorta blows up on Jax. Jax winds up having a neat flashback about his Mom giving him a watch meant for his Dad. When Jax comes to, he is being carried by Stein and Rip and we learn that Jax was exposed to a great deal of temporal radiation; Gideon says it’s affecting his body by aging him, and there’s nothing Gideon can do.
The Rogues are chatting, and Cold says he has a sixth sense about this job. It feels bad to him, so they want out.
Rip forcefully tells Gideon to reboot, and he seems obsessed with the fact that the timeline hasn’t changed in regard to his family dying. Canary tells Hunter about what Savage said about him, and Hunter denies little of it and says he just isn’t sure about himself.
In another attempt to get Carter’s mind right again, Hawkgirl shows him a picture of their son, but she gets too close and Carter almost kills her. Atom steps in, saves her, and then says to stay away from Carter as he goes to chat with Savage about Carter’s mind. Savage once again goads Atom. He informs Atom that he, too, used to love Hawkgirl, and that Carter had ruined that for him as well. Savage tries to convince Atom that they are on the same side, but Atom is having none of it. Instead, he has a flashback about the last time he and Felicity Smoak talked before he left for the future fight.
Atom returns to see Hawkgirl reading a LOVE POEM to Carter. They have the same conversation they have been having for several episodes now about destiny and love and all that jazz, but this time, Atom breaks up with her. Hawkgirl doesn’t really try and stop him from leaving, although she does seem a little sad.
Jax has aged to 63, and The Rogues are mad. They point out that not killing Savage is why this has happened. They confront Rip about what happened, and how it’s his fault. He tells them to leave in the time ship if they have no faith. White Canary joins the conversation, and we see her have a flashback with Nyssa Al Ghul. Ghul is in captivity, and this is the first time she has seen Canary since Canary died and got better. Nyssa is facing a punishment with dignity, and she insists that Canary not free her.
Back on the ship, Stein goes to see Savage to try and use the ritual with Carter’s body in 1975 to save Jax. Savage tries to manipulate Stein, but he basically just figures out that he can save Jax by sending him back to 2016. He once again slips Jax a roofie (why is this his thing?) and puts him on the jump ship home to 2016. Seems like he could have asked if anyone else wanted to go before just shuttling Jax home. The Rogues show up and, well, they sorta wanted to be on it! The Rogues threaten Stein, but he points out they all have to work together now.
Atom goes to talk to Savage again, and they argue about Hawkgirl. Savage goads Atom into opening the cell, and while Atom gets a few good blows in, Savage basically whoops him good. For a genius, the Atom is an idiot. Savage gets loose, leaves Atom behind, and then shuts Gideon down. Atom recovers, and he teams up with Captain Cold and Heat Wave in a futile effort to stop Savage. Hunter instructs Canary and Stein on how to operate the ship. Canary starts out navigating, but she winds up piloting when Hunter leaves to go help the others deal with Savage. Hunter gets taken out fairly quickly in the fight, but just as Savage is about to kill Hawkgirl, Carter remembers that he is Hawkman! His wings sprout and he goes at Savage until he gets shanked right in the gut!
This enrages Hawkgirl who then musters up all her strength and knocks Savage out! This all occurs just as they make it to the Vanishing Point, where they are hauled in with a tractor beam.
Atom and Hawkgirl have what is hopefully their last chat about their relationship. Hawkgirl is sorry it isn’t gonna work out. They both wish things could be different, and then Atom thanks her because that’s what sappy guys like Atom do.
Rip calls an emergency session of the council where he proves that Savage has been manipulating the timestream. Of course, it turns out that the council knew it all along, as they are in cahoots. The show ends with the crew being taken captive, and Savage goading Hunter in a jail cell now. I wonder why Savage tried so hard to escape if he knew that they were just taking him to all his allies? Oh well. Savage tells Hunter on the way out that he’s ready to meet his family. Things don’t look good for the kids right now.
Until next week, see ya in time!
