“The Revenant”  (2016)

A frontiersman, Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his son, Hawk (Forrest Goodluck) are scouts for a trapping expedition that is hit by Indians. Glass leads the men to an escape path when he is attacked by a bear and left for dead.  Glass must now battle the elements to survive. “The Revenant” Website

What to Watch For: Will this be DiCaprio’s role toward winning an Academy Award?

Word on the Street:  Two-time Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki used only available light in filming this movie, and no CGI special effects like “green screens” were used.

My Take:  It will be interesting to see what multi-Oscar winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu creates with this film.

The Aokigahara Forrest is at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan.  While a beautiful place, it’s known for one thing…where people go to commit suicide. Sara Price (Natalie Dormer) is in the area to search for her missing twin sister.  Sara must now enter the forest to try and find what happened to.  It could be the last thing she ever does. “The Forest” Website

What to Watch For: Natalie Dormer is hot off her role of Margaery Tyrell in HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

Word on the Street: “ The Vampire Diaries” Taylor Kinney is in the film as Aiden.

My Take: I am always interested in Japanese ghost stories.

If you can’t get to the theatre this weekend, then stay at home and watch movies on Atlanta’s CW.

“The Fisher King”  (1991) An abrasive talk radio host, Jack Lucas (played by Jeff Bridges), makes comments on-air that incite a caller to kill people at a NYC bar. Jack goes into a depressed state over the incident. His life is changed when he meets and befriends a homeless man (played by Robin Williams), whom, he learns, lost his wife in that bar. Can the two men find the road to sanity with the help of each other?
