“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ (2014)

Peter (Andrew Garfield) it seems, has a great life.  His girlfriend is the beautiful and smart, Gwen (Emma Stone), and he’s a superhero.  But Peter’s world is getting complicated quickly.  As soon as he takes on a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx),  bad guys from his past start popping up.  And it seems that all his enemies have something in common –  a corporation called Oscorp. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ Website

What to Watch For: With more villains comes more action sequences.

Word on the Street:  Fans were very disappointed to hear that Shailene Woodley’s character, Mary Jane, won’t make an appearance until the third film.

My Take:  I enjoyed the first film but mostly because I thought Emma Stone made the perfect Gwen Stacy.

“Only Lovers Left Alive”  (2014)

Adam (Tom Hiddleston) is a depressed, underground musician living in Detroit.  His former lover, Eve (Tilda Swinton), moves back into town, and soon the couple are back together.  Their lives will never be the same when Adam’s younger sister (Mia Wasikowska) arrives. “Only Lovers Left Alive” Website

What to Watch For:  Many critics think that Tilda Swinton could get another Academy Award nomination from this role.

Word on the Street:  It’s said that this may be Indie favorite director/writer Jim Jarmusch’s most “mainstream” film to date.

My Take:  Swinton is always at the top of her game, and I bet this film will be fun to watch.

Decoding Annie Parker

“Decoding Annie Parker”  (2014)

Annie (Samantha Morton) is a young woman who comes from a long line of family members who died from cancer.  Dr. Marie-Claire King (Helen Hunt) is a researcher who specializes in cancer.  The two, Annie and Dr. King, embark on a remarkable journey to prove that some forms of cancer are hereditary. “Decoding Annie Parker” Website

What to Watch For:  The film has been nominated for numerous awards on the film festival circuit, including a Best Actress win for Samantha Morton.

Word on the Street:  Film festival audiences have fallen in love with this movie and say that Morton gives a performance of a lifetime.

My Take:  I am really excited to watch this inspirational film based loosely on a true story.

Blue Ruin

“Blue Ruin” (2014)

Dwight (Macon Blair) is basically a beach bum, living out of his car and depending on trash cans and strangers for meals. Dwight discovers that a long time family rival is going to be released from prison.  Now Dwight will go back home to Virginia and try and get his revenge. “Blue Ruin” Website

What to Watch For:   Like the popular film, “Veronica Mars,” this movie would not have been made without its Kickstarter campaign.

Word on the Street:  The film is getting great reviews and won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

My Take:  I have heard a lot about this film from my fellow critics.  They tell me if you enjoy crime drama films, this one is for you

If you can’t make it to the theater this weekend, then stay at home and watch movies on CW69.
