What’s trending this Holiday Season? When it comes to dressing for the cooler weather, we’ve got you covered. ;)
Cozy and Warm:
Staying warm during the winter is always in. The asymmetrical designs that were in with dresses this summer have transformed over to long asymmetrical sweaters and ponchos. Leather leggings are trending, and turtlenecks are making a major comeback; we’re seeing them under sweaters, jackets, and jumpers. But don’t just focus your style eye on your outfit and then have to cover it all up with that big winter jacket that doesn’t go with anything. One of the best things about fall/winter fashion is how cute the outerwear is. Warm trenches, leather jackets, (faux)-fur coats. Soft woolen scarves and hats, leg-warmers, and tailored leather gloves.
We’re taking a note from Taylor Swift’s vibe, because red is always absolute perfection for the holidays. This year, keep an eye out for darker wine colors and bright cranberry reds. But that’s not all; winter just wouldn’t be winter without the blues, and that includes royals, electrics, and lavenders. Not to mention, when the town is covered in sparkling white snow, your whites can come back out to play, too!
I was once told that when in doubt, wear black! It’s always simple, classic, elegant, and flattering. So, of course, when you’re dressing for that holiday party, go ahead and grab your favorite little black dress. What’s more; you can add any holiday sparkle and immediately transform it into a brand new outfit.
Remember those thick-framed glasses that were in this summer? Well, they’re not going away anytime soon. The geeky look is chic and sophisticated, and it’s here to stay. But that doesn’t just limit to frames; ties, button-ups, cardigans, school-girl tights and ankle boots are perfect this season. Classes might be out for the Christmas break, but the scholarly look is definitely still in session.
All That Glitters:
… is gold! This season, at least. This trend is playful, so make sure to have fun with it! Add, mix, and match some sparkle in your outfit for a festive touch. Sequins skirts with sweaters, layered sparkly statement necklaces … add some gemstones to any outfit with a little hair pin, brooch, or bow. If there’s ever a time of year to sparkle, it’s at Christmas time.
Ladies, don’t let the cold temperatures scare you into staying in pants all winter. Winterize your skirt collection, because this year they’re everywhere. Hemlines are lower and fabrics are thicker. Skirts are sleek, professional and feminine. They’re an easy go-to, and are effortlessly cute with tights and your favorite boots.
At the top of my Christmas list. (I have my eye on one from BCBGMAXAZRIA). A fashionable alternative to your fall/winter coats; exchange them for capes! They’re trendy and different. You wear them just like you would your basic coat, but they give a completely different look. This season, there are so many reasons to get dressed up, which is definitely one of my favorite things in the world. Capes are perfect for any occasion you have coming up, and with them, you’ll definitely stand out from the crowd.
