Coming this week to a theatre near you:

Skyfall (2012)

SKYFALL

Source: Sony Pictures

James Bond (Daniel Craig) must get back to the basics to save M (Judi Dench) from a former spy (Javier Bardem) who is out to kill her and destroy MI6. Skyfall Website

What to Watch For: The film is already setting box office records overseas; so how big will the opening be in the states?

Word on the Street: This film is the first of three from the new contract that Craig signed for the Bond series, so expect this film to be a game-changer.

My Take: Javier Bardem as the evil Silva is a new type of Bond villain; something we have never seen before.

A Late Quartet (2012)

A Late Quartet

Source: Entertainment One

A world renowned string quartet is faced with a number of issues, including a possible life altering illness that may cause the group to break-up. A Late Quartet IMDB Page

What to Watch For: The cast is led by Christopher Walken who is being talked about for an Academy Award nomination. The cast also includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener and Mark Ivanir.

Word on the Street: Imogen Poots, who plays the daughter of Hoffman and Keener’s characters, is being touted as the breakout star of this film.

My Take: Expect this film to do well on the art house circuit due to the draw of its incredible cast.

Smashed (2012)

Married couple Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Charlie (Aaron Paul), whose love is built on their drinking habits, are tested when Kate decides to get sober. Smashed IMDB Page

What to Watch For: The film is being praised for its combination of humor and sadness.

Word on the Street:Winstead is being touted as a possible Academy Award contender, but it’s Nick Offerman’s performance as Kate’s AA sponsor that is getting great reviews.

My Take: The film takes a touchy subject and makes it work, but will it be overlooked due to “Flight,” another film out that deals with the topic of alcoholism?

If you can’t make it to the theatre this weekend, stay at home and watch movies on CW69.

One problem – they hate each other.
