They’re all grown up! TVD star Nina Dobrev and executive producer Julie Plec talk about the characters’ senior year and a looming graduation date that may be too soon for some fans and not soon enough for others. Paul Wesley is more than ready to close his locker and fling off his grad cap. EW reported the TV scoop.
Season 4 may end with graduation for Elena (Nina Dobrev). Plec says, “There’s a lot of great questions that come along with graduation that our characters — both human and supernatural — are gonna be asking themselves about who they are, who they’re supposed to be, and what they’re supposed to do with their life moving forward.”
As for the timeframe of the graduation, it seems likely it will still be at the end of the season — which will not please Paul Wesley. Apparently Wesley dislikes the high school setting, especially since he plays a hundred year old vampire stuck in 12th grade history class.
“Paul Wesley looked at me this year, and he’s like, ‘I don’t have to go back to high school, do I?’” exec producer Julie Plec tells EW with a laugh. “I said, ‘Yeah, you do. You’re in high school.’ He goes, ‘That’s ridiculous.’ I’m like, ‘You’re in high school. If you don’t go to high school, what’s the point?’ ‘I look so ridiculous. We all look so ridiculous. We’re 100 years old, we shouldn’t be in high school.’ I said, ‘Well, there’s one more year to go, so suck it up.’”
I have to agree with Wesley. Even Dobrev concurs. She says, “We can only play high school for so long and be believable and also challenged.” I think it’s about time to retire the classroom setting.
Although a notable episode in season 3 titled “The Reckoning” took place inside the high school. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) crashes Senior Prank Night as Elena and company TP (toilet paper) the school. It ended with Matt (Zach Roerig) nearly drowning in the indoor pool and dramatic tension between Elena and Klaus in the gymnasium. Julie Plec recently tweeted her favorite episodes from each season, and this one made the top of her list.
The Reckoning: might be my number 1 favorite episode of the whole series.—

What accompanies graduation? Prom! We can expect pretty dresses, awkward moments when Caroline (Candice Accola) and Elena must choose their dates and dreamy high school slow dances. Knowing “The Vampire Diaries”, there will probably be a little blood in there too. Are you rooting for a speedy graduation or would you like the cast to linger in adolescence a little longer?
