Tomorrow marks the first day of NYC Fashion Week… (we have Paris Fashion Week to look forward to later this month as well!) and a little birdie hinted at another trend we’ll be seeing on runways this fall: metallics.

And not just any shiny-satin-looking fabrics. We’re talking liquid metallics, shine with an almost fluid, molten-like glow. Silk textures, leather textures, dresses and skirts, shoes and bags – metallics make for the ultimate statement piece. The gleam catches the light just right, doing so much more than what sequins can.

If you watched the London Olympics 2012 Closing Ceremonies, you saw the beautiful Kate Moss work the runway in a gorgeous, golden-metallic gown. Another piece I need to add to my closet.

I know it’s a little daring, and just because it looks killer on the runway doesn’t mean we can necessarily wear it in real life. But depending on personal style, expression, and your mood, really — you can interpret this trend however your heart desires. Even the littlest hint of metallic in your outfit puts you right where you need to be to turn heads this season. And if you’ve got a special occasion coming up, homecoming, formals, galas, etc., definitely opt for metallic evening wear. (Though be sure to keep your accessories fairly simple!)

It’s a look that exudes elegant-confidence. So, go ahead — let them stare.
