Tired of grilling out in your grandparents’ backyard every Labor Day Weekend? Well drop that hot dog and take a trip to one of these events happening around Atlanta.
NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES (Friday, Aug. 31- Sunday, Sept. 2)
For all of you NASCAR fans, it’s time to rev up your engines for “the biggest Labor Day Party in America” at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This annual 3-day event will be held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and is sure to bring the fun.
Friday, August 31st– Look out for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Practice and the night’s main event, Jeff Foxworthy’s Grit Chips 200 at 8pm.
Saturday, September 1st– For you early birds, check out the NASCAR Nationwide Series Final Practice at 9am. If you’re feeling competitive, the Jeff Gordon Foundation is hosting a charity kickball tournament at 11am. Then at 7pm, watch some of your favorite drivers demolish 195 laps at the NRA American Warrior 300. Where’s my war paint?
Sunday, September 2nd– Catch the featured race, AdvoCare 500 and all of its 325-lap glory at 7:30pm.

Holy William Shatner! It’s Dragon*Con time. The world’s largest multimedia, sci-fi and fantasy convention is taking over downtown Atlanta this Labor Day Weekend. Expect the usual eccentric Star Wars costumes and Star Trek look-a-likes, but also expect some big names in the sci-fi and fantasy world to show up. Some celebrity guests expected to make appearances include William Shatner, Elvira, Loni Anderson, Carrie Fisher, Stan Lee, and many more.
One event that I’m excited for is the Annual Dragon*Con Parade. It will step off at 10am from Woodruff Park at the corner of Auburn Ave and Peachtree Street and will conclude at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.
Get your dancing shoes on and get ready to boogie like John Travolta at the Apocalypto Disco happening Friday night at 10pm. This “Disco Inferno” benefits the Georgia Chapter of the ALS Association. Watching a storm trooper dance to “Funky Town” definitely sounds like a good time to me.
