The gang is back and this is one reunion worth attending! American Pie was the original teen comedy flick, and a very R-rated one at that! We all thought the laughs about sexual innuendos and Stifler’s (Seann William Scott) stupidity were over but we were wrong. The entire cast reunites in East Great Falls for their thirteen-year reunion. In eager anticipation, I made sure to watch the previous three films to make sure my maturity was lowered to a 12 year old boy level.
I can happily say I was not disappointed in the slightest. The best thing, is that after all these years, the producers were able to convince every member from the original American Pie cast to come back for American Reunion. Most of them don’t have anything else going on, so it could only benefit their own careers. In attendance were the MILF boys, Vicky (Tara Reid) and even Stifler’s (Jennifer Coolidge) mom. She plays a larger role in this film than any other. I was especially happy to see that Chris Klein was back as Oz. He was mysteriously left out of the American Wedding plot.
The movie has a lot of laughs with the same sex and dirty humor the previous ones had. Each character is back with their baggage and personal issues. The writers were able to interest the audience in each character without using the usual stale reunion plot points.
As usual, Jim (Jason Biggs) gets caught doing something naughty by someone, Stifler’s mom is hot and Jim’s infamous viral video from the original film is shown. In a twisted turn of events, we get to watch Jim give his dad (Eugene Levy) some advice. Eugene Levy is as nerdy as ever and we get to watch him loosen up those eyebrows…if you know what I mean.
Most of the actors are looking better than they did in the 90’s. Or maybe that’s just me talking. Oz got rid of the long hair and horrible gel, Jim has come into his own, and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) manages to pull off a sophisticated yet bad-ass vibe with a Ducati and a scarf. Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) is the only one who needs to work on his look. He has assumed the role of a housewife and has grown his hair and beard out as a way to compensate.
If the American Pie movies are your style, I strongly suggest you watch them before watching the reunion. It’s a great way to warm up and prepare for the Reunion. There are also a lot of comments that reference things in the gang’s past from the previous movies. I think the writer’s did a great job incorporating the hilarious moments we all loved in the final (or is it?) American Pie film.
And one more thing….the Stifmeister still hasn’t changed. Thank goodness.
