Opening this week at a theatre near you:
A young, inexperienced CIA agent (Ryan Reynolds) is in charge of a remote safe house. His world is changed when a legendary criminal (Denzel Washington) becomes his prisoner. The safe house comes under attack, and he has to move his prisoner to a new location. Safe House website
What to Watch For: The film should be a good combination of action and suspense.
Word on the Street: Washington and Reynolds work well on screen together, and that sly Denzel humor works its way into the script.
A newly married couple’s life is changed when they are in a car accident, and the wife (Rachel McAdams) slips into a coma. When she wakes up, she doesn’t remember her husband (Channing Tatum), and he must try and get her to fall in love with him all over again. The Vow website
What to Watch For: Should do well with the date crowd so close to Valentine’s Day.
Word on the Street: The film is based on a true story and is not a Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, A Walk to Remember) novel.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
Sean (Josh Hutcherson) gets a mysterious message that appears to be from his grandfather (Michael Caine), and the message shows co-ordinates of a lost island. Sean convinces his step-father (Dwayne Johnson) to look for the island in the South Pacific, and what they find is just simply amazing. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island website
What to Watch For: Film is a sequel to the 2008 film, Journey to the Center of the Earth, but Josh Hutcherson is the only cast member to appear in both films.
Word on the Street: The Rock sings! Dwayne Johnson actually sings in this film.
If you can’t make it to the theatre, then stay at home and watch movies on CW69 this weekend:
X-Men 3: The Last Stand (2006) Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) are back as they take on Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his band of bad mutants, the Brotherhood, for control of a possible cure to treat mutations.
Grilled (2006) Maurice (Ray Romano) and Dave (Kevin James) are two salesmen selling meat door to door. They are going to be fired if they don’t get their sales up. They call on a very attractive woman (Sofia Vergara), but they have no idea this sale will lead to their involvement in Mob bosses, hit men and jealous husbands.
Ali (2001) Will Smith, in his Oscar nominated role, stars as the Greatest, boxing legend, Muhammad Ali. From his early days, fresh from his Olympic Gold Medal, to his name change from Cassius Clay, to his bouts with George Foreman, Ali was always at the center of the boxing world. Smith is brilliant in the role of a lifetime.
